2011 Songwriting Winners

Our 2011 Gospel songwriters Music Workshop was a great success and we had some wonderfully talented and gifted songwriters who participated in our workshop Culminating Concert this year.  As you read more about our top three songwriting winners you will agree that God has multi-talented people all over the world and we were fortunate enough to have some of this talent to stop by the workshop and bless us with their songs.

The first place songwriting winner was Sister Yvonne Wheeler.  Sister Wheeler is a newcomer to the workshop, but she is not a newcomer to gospel music.  Sister Wheeler is a local recording artist with 2 CD’s under her belt and when she opens her mouth to sing, it is easy to understand why she had the number 1 song for this year.  Her song was entitled, “I Need A Blessing.” As she sang the words to this song the power and anointing of the Lord fell all over the house.  Sister Wheeler has a powerful voice and she sings with a lot of sincerity and feeling.  As the winner of our songwriting showcase, she will be representing the gospel songwriters Music workshop at the God Save Humanity (GSH) gospel Music Awards show in January.  To learn more about the GSH Gospel Music Awards Show, go to their website at:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Sister Beverly McDonald was our second place songwriting winner for 2011 and she is not a stranger to the Gospel songwriters Music workshop, but was our 2009 first place winner.  Sister McDonald wowed us with her song, “You Chose The world Over Me”, and now she is back with her song, “Ask The Lord to Bless.”  Sister McDonald is a prolific songwriter and her songs are always thought provoking, spiritual and profound.  Every time she attends the workshop, you know she has another great song to share.  She is enthusiastic, energetic and always positive whenever you meet her.  As she continues to share her great music, God continues to bless her with even more anointed songs.  To learn more about sister Beverly McDonald check out our Winners section.

The 2011 third place songwriting winner was Minister Philip Hayes.  Although this was the first time Minister Hayes attended one of our workshops, he said it would not be his last.  Minister Hayes presented his song, “Jesus Led The Way” and everyone was moved to worship and thanksgiving as he sang.  Minister Hayes has a serious and sincere way about him and as you listen to the words of the song, it is evident his love for god is very deep.  Minister Hayes indicated that he has not written very many songs, but this one is a real winner.  Don’t be surprised when you hear his name again because God is not through with him yet.
