Gospel Songwriters Workshop

Workshop Update

The Lord Still Reigns

Sometimes we aren’t sure how God is going to work things out when all around us seems unsure, but we know he always has the right answer at the right time.  It seemed to me that things weren’t coming together like I needed them to for the 2008 workshop, but as I already said, God had a way of working it out better than I could imagine.

The opening day of the workshop was so exciting because we had Bishop Leonard Scott of Tyscot Records in the house.  He was our guest speaker for the opening luncheon and it was fantastic.  Our first opening session for the workshop occurred on Thursday evening with our Musicians Class under the direction of Brother Jermel Kidd.  Brother Kidd is an extraordinary musician and teacher who made this class so exciting for amateur and veteran musicians alike.  It was not only fun, interesting and challenging, but he created a great atmosphere for sharing and learning.

Friday morning we started off with our workshop seminars.  Bishop Scott talked with us about the importance of preparation and understanding the business side of the music industry.  Minister Robert Brown of J.ssentric Entertainment and Minister Rodney Goldsmith of Dzynz Records talked with us about the importance of a producer.  They covered the reasons why you need a producer and what a producer needs to do for you as an artist.  Brother Blair Anderson of BA Solutions covered creating a good bio to let others know about you and to identify your accomplishments.  As you can tell, we had some exceptional seminars that everyone could enjoy.

Saturday evening was no exception because our Culminating Concert was off the hook!  Our MC was Sister Brenda Lee-Moore from Atlanta, Ga. Who got us off to a great start with her engaging style and eloquent manner made it easy to feel like worshipping God.  The Voice Class under the direction of Sister Katrina Washington was able to invoke the presence of God throughout the whole building with their rendition of “You Are the Air I Breathe.”  As you already know, there was nothing else to do but go up higher and that is exactly what we did.

The Workshop Choir sang several songs with Bishop Leonard Scott from his new CD entitled “Be Lifted Up.”  All praise belongs to God because we had a magnificent time as the choir ministered with Bishop Scott.  You could feel yokes being broken as songs like, Mighty God and Lord You Reign were sung under the anointing.  I am sure by now you are thinking it couldn’t get any better, but somehow it did.

The Songwriters Class under the direction of Sister Yvonne Reed Matthews, Pastor O’Neal Porter and sis Shirley Scott, closed out our service.  We had 11 talented songwriters with 11 dynamic songs.  As you listened to each song you could feel the spirit of god in the words that were sung.  You could also feel the sincerity of each singer as they ministered their song.  God truly blessed us in a mighty way which of course should be no surprise.

I could go on and on about what a great time we had at the 2008 workshop, but I think what I want to do is to encourage you to plan to be with us on next year because it can only get better.  If you have been inspired by the things you have heard, then I invite you to go to our Registration Page and sign up now.  The more you are willing to learn, the more God is willing to trust you with that gift.  Where you go and How far you go is really up to you as you follow the leading of the Lord and prepare yourself to do His will.
